To get as much of an inside track as possible on First State’s third artist album, we caught up with the man behind it, Sander van der Waal for a down-low pow-wow!

Welcome, Sander! Where in the world are you today and what have you been up to?

Thanks a lot, I’m in Holland right now. I just came back from a tour through India and today I’m working on some new music for this upcoming summer!

‘Full Circle’, your third artist album, is on full release. What have the first round of reactions been like from your fans?

I’ve had amazing reactions so far and pretty much got everything I’ve hoped for. It’s always scary to release an album with new music, because you can never tell if people are going like it. But so far so good!

Have you picked up on any distinct early favourites in the track listing?

Oh yes absolutely. Personally my favorites are ‘Where You Are’ with Quilla, ‘Glow’ with Eric Lumiere, ‘Seeing Stars’ with Sarah Howells and ‘I Need Your Love’, but as my mood changes from day to day – it could be a completely different list tomorrow.

Your album titles, the last two in particular, have a degree of the cryptic, or ‘hidden message’ about them. With ‘Changing Lanes’, what was the meaning of its title?

Celebrating 20 years of Time Warp (timetable announcement)

Time Warp festival reveal the timetable for the 20th edition of Time Warp MannheimWith just a few days to go, , which takes place on Saturday 5 April featuring the world’s leading techno artists including Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Recondite, Ilario Alicante, tINI, Seth Troxler Carl Cox and Tale Of Us.  

Over the last 20 years Time Warp has become an institution for electronic music lovers, with loyal fans from all over the globe making an annual pilgrimage to witness marathon sessions from techno’s finest, surrounded by stunning lighting and visual technology. This years line-up includes a special performance from Laurent Garnier in what will be his 20th appearance at the festival. Time Warp regulars Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos and Carl Cox will also perform. Acts making ther debut at Time Warp this year include Recondite (Live), Ilario Alicante and Sonja Moonear plus Mannheim-based live-act Bunte Bummler will play a live set featuring a selection of unreleased, never-before-heard tracks.

A total of 42 DJs and live acts make this anniversary a truly momentous occasion. Below is the full line up, listing all artists in alphabetical order:

Exit Festival 2014: Around the World in 4 days

Exit Festival 2014: Around the World in 4 daysThe EXIT Festival takes you around the world in four days, from 10th to 13th July. Our journey starts at British dub, continues to American rock, then proceeds to German indie-folk, all the way to Korean ambient metal, only to be topped off by Japanese alternative rock, introducing guitars, drums, basses, tambourines and Asian traditional instruments to Fusion Stage and Riffs & Beats Stage.

Friday, 11th July, is d-day: the British MIDI warriors of the 21st century are coming to Fusion Stage. Asian Dub Foundation have a spicy combination of sounds like jungle rhythms, dub, punk rock guitar, and traditional Indian melodies. During their fruitful and bountiful carrier, ADF shared the hallowed ground of a stage with the likes of Rage Against The Machine, The Cure, and Radiohead. Their summer tour is fueled by their new album ‘The Signal and Noise’.Their concert is definitely something you don’t want to miss, because when will you again get the chance to see one of the best live bands in the world who are able to make every gig so unique, they entrench it in your head so vividly – they make it look easy.

The cult American rock band, The Afghan Whigs, announced their seventh (also comeback) album, “Do to the Beast,” and they’re coming back to alternative rock with a bang. The crew that influenced many followers of this genre presented their very best at the record that’s coming out this spring, heralded by the latest single ‘Algiers’ (VIDEO: http://bit.ly/1fvYcD). They’ll play their dark, brooding rock sound peppered by true american riffs, and lined with unique lyrics that are borderline black humour at the Fusion Stage at EXIT Festival on 10th July.
