The antagonistic song Eat Your Money is a slap in the face of the right wing Swedish government lead by Fredrik Reinfeldt. The video is a farse in honour of Benny Hill and makes fun of the ministers of Sweden including minister of foreign politics Carl Bildt and Jimmie Åkesson – the leader of the national socialist party in Sweden.
“The dark forces are gathering all over” Wermelin explains, “This song is about how 50% percent of the people voted on right wing parties and thought they had something to gain from it. But the politics of the right wing gives benefits to only 10% of the voters. These are old facts but people tend to forget.”
“And don’t come and tell me that music and politics don’t mix” Wermelin points out. “It’s like saying sports and politics don’t mix as is heard now with Green-Tregaros statement on the Russian homophobic laws. Politics overrides everything! If you have the means to say something important it’s your goddamn duty to do that.”

In just over 2 weeks some of the world’s best electronic music DJ’s will head to Zurich to broadcast their radio shows LIVE from Schloss Sihlberg castle from 4 – 8 September alongside other radio jockeys from all corners of the world giving people visiting the festival, their listeners back home, and online around the world, the rare opportunity to „Listen to how the World Sounds“.
This BBC-offshoot went on air in 2002 as a pure digital radio – with the purpose to play even more music in the shadows of the charts. Presenters such as Jarvis Cocker, Marc Riley (The Fall), Gilles Peterson, Don Letts, Guy Garvey (Elbow) and the son of John Peel, Tom Ravenscroft, have all graced the BBC studios in London and the station can claim without exaggeration to air the best programmes far and wide.

As a third of the Belleville Three Derrick, together with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson are recognized as the originators of Detroit techno. His own track „Strings Of Life“ (under the moniker Rhythm Is Rhythm) virtually represents the blueprint of this genre. After many months of info-leaks and dance-land buzz, dating back to late 2012, electronic music maven Paul van Dyk is able to officially confirm today that his next project will be the long whispered ‘Politics of Dancing 3’.
Spinning off from his much praised turn-of-the-millennium mix-comp series, its release will form a generational and stylistic bridge from the illustrious first two chapters. ‘POD3’ will see PvD again operate in a wide-open musical space, working with a handpicked company of singers, songwriters and co-producers, both established and nu-blood. The producer – an inspiration to scores of others, who last week passed the 1 million Twitter Followers milestone – is ready to continue the story of The Politics of Dancing…
On confirming the news of POD’s return, van Dyk said: “after almost a decade I’m thrilled to find myself here today, on the threshold of bringing back The Politics of Dancing. Fans have long told me that they felt that POD was unfinished PvD business. Over the last few years I’ve come to share that belief and in 2012 I decided it was time to address this. As a direct result of that I’ve found that ‘Politics 3’ has presented me with a wonderful opportunity. As well as some of my regular studio friends, it’s given me the chance to be able to work with many producers that I’ve long wanted to collaborate with. This has brought about music I’m tremendously excited about. I can’t wait to show you all what ‘The Politics of Dancing’ means 8 years after its last release!”

Just a few weeks before the start of the IV International Forum and ethno-art and music festival „Without Borders„, MIKA has the pleasure to meet up with Walter Vella, one of the very talented musicians in TRANIA (Malta). Trania is the result of an artistic collaboration between musicians Walter Vella (saxes and flutes), Joseph Camilleri (percussion), Mark Attard (keyboards) and Nadine Axisa (vocals). With their vast musical experience and exposure, ranging from Rock to Reggae to World Music and Jazz, the TRANIA musicians believe that contemporary Maltese ethnic/folk music should not be confined within the island’s borders for its inspiration. North African, Middle Eastern and Sicilian sounds have a heavy presence in their music, and the combination of these gives Trania a very distinct musical identity.
With no doubt TRANIA will be one of the most interesting artists that are joining the music festival „Without Borders“ that will take place this year between 13 and 15 September in the resort „Albena„, Bulgaria
MIKA talks with TRANIA’s saxes and flutes artist Walter Vella.
