With ‘Storm Chaser’ – their first single post the release of the ‘Wake Your Mind’ album – still raising big room temperatures globally, EDM cosmonauts Nic Chagall and Bossi are poised to send the Fahrenheit flying again. Making its first appearance on their Trance Nation mix-comp album in 2012, ‘Crushed’ quickly became a set-request standing order for crowds at C.G. gigs. Now, with its anthem credentials already well advanced, its long awaited official release is close at hand…
Beating the remix path for the track, Comic Gate have handed ‘Crushed’s keys to underground Dutch heroes Rafaël Frost and Mark Sixma.
Premiered on Corsten’s Countdown 313, Rafaël Frost crushes in both harmonic shades and electro aspects to the frontend of his version. He builds the boom-factor with big concussive tech-trance sequences; allows the pitch wheel to climb high-rise high, and with a final flourish serves ‘Crushed’s big stabbed anthemic mainline.
Armin meanwhile has been all over the Mark Sixma’s mix, champing it on ASOT618 and619. Sixma super-charges his rework with striking rimshot percussion, festival-revving EDM FX and some seismic bass and drums. The Tilburg-based producer masterfully sets up ‘Crushed’ harmonic/euphoric interchange with some crowd-flaming modulation lines, pulling off a dazzling, head-spin top-of-the-drop moment.

As one of the most talked about concerts of this year’s internationally renowned Bavarian Opera Festival, EDM trailblazer Paul van Dyk prepares to cross another musical gulf. In the grand surrounds of the Munich National Theatre, as part of the show, he will electronically reinterpret some of the most celebrated works of Giuseppe Verdi, one of the most revered operatic composers of all time. Additionally, van Dyk will also be showcasing music from his highly anticipated seventh artist album ‘The Politics of Dancing 3’.
Hot off the back of his We Are One Festival last weekend, Paul van Dyk is set to continue his extraordinary summer of staging boundary defying musical events in astounding surrounds. Stepping off the We Are One stage, in the historic renaissance setting of Berlin’s Zitadelle Spandau, the electronic music supremo gave more details of his next bold step…
“When I decided that merging electronic music with the operatic realm was a concept I wanted to pursue”, says van Dyk, “there was one composer who I was instinctively certain would be ripe for reinterpretation. One that I knew would easily sustain the substantial transitional leap required. Verdi’s music is a wonderful mix of melodrama and actual drama, driven by real emotion – all elements I seek to put into my music. I anticipate this recital will be a once in a lifetime experience – the only time that Verdi’s music and my own will share the same set-list. I’m looking forward to the challenge of it immensely. I hope to see as many forward-thinking dance music fans as opera devotees there!”
